The Tesla Semi wowed the crowd attending the annual Celebration of Lights Christmas parade in Modesto, California.
Tesla recently delivered to Frito-Lay and Pepsi on Thursday the first of its all-electric Class 8 Tesla Semi vehicles, which have three times the power of other diesel trucks on the road. After taking over the vehicle, Frito-Lay debuted the Class 8 truck in the Modesto Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 3rd.
Modera’s annual Celebration of Lights theme for 2022 was “Dashing through the Decades”. Twitter user @bshaddix shared a video of the Tesla Semi’s debut in the Christmas parade, noting that it was important to improving the atmosphere in their community.

In response to the comment about the diesel semi pulling the parade and the resulting engine and exhaust noise, @bshaddix pointed out that there was so much fumes throughout the rest of the procession. “You described the rest of the parade. So. Many. Fumes.”
@bshaddix said Teslarati that they had read about the van in the paper and remarked how good it would be for improving the air in the valley.
“I have my office on the parade route, so I’m there for almost every parade. When the Frito-Lay diesel was first, I mentioned the new Tesla Semi to my wife and she said, look, there it is, another truck.”
“And I froze when I saw it. There it was, in our little town, ready to go. And with rain and lights. I grabbed my camera and went out into the street.”
He added that this was the only video he was able to get, and he forgot to get a shot of Santa, but he was amazed at how quiet it was.
“When I wanted to shoot it, it was so… quiet. And how the lights were in the cab and how it was already painted for Frito-Lay. Just wow. I’ve heard others say similar things. In my opinion, it was the highlight of this year’s parade. Sorry, Santa. Maybe they’ll release it again for the 4th of July.”
As a lawyer who’s fascinated by technology and lives in a small Central Valley town, @bshaddix said it was “pretty cool” to witness some of the first Tesla Semi deliveries.
