The free Elden Ring Colosseum update is out today, December 7th, and has brought with it a brand new PvP mode that anyone can participate in. This 1.08 update brings the goods to the open world RPG and is the biggest addition to the game since its February 2022 release.
The primary addition of the Colosseum multiplayer mode is reason enough to venture back into the merciless realms of Bandai Namco and FromSoftware’s magnum opus. It won’t be the only thing included in the 1.08 update, though, as at least a few balance tweaks and potential bug fixes will need to be applied.
Read on to find out everything there is to know about the new Elden Ring Colosseum multiplayer DLC, including when it will be released, what exactly it is, and a full list of patch notes.
What time is the Elden Ring update today?
After an hour of server downtime, the Elden Ring Colosseum update should be live at or around 10am here in the UK. This means you should now be able to go to the Xbox, PlayStation or Steam launcher to download/install the update right now.
The update should be live now anyway, after about an hour outage, as detailed on the official Twitter account:
After the necessary pre-update server maintenance outage, everyone should now download the 1.08 update.
Elden Ring multiplayer Colosseum explained: what is it?
The Colosseum in Elden Ring update adds a brand new free-for-all multiplayer mode to the game.
The dev team has made the Caelid, Leyndell and Limgrave colosseums available to everyone for some tasty PvP action. In the colosseums, you can participate in one-on-one, free-for-all and team fights with up to six players.
We imagine there will be some intense battles and some bragging rights won after the update. What better way to prove once and for all that you are the best among your friends in the Elden Ring than to defeat them in a duel?
Elden Ring patch notes: what’s new in today’s update?
The full list of patch notes has been confirmed by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco. The main headline from the list is that the coliseums in Caelid, Leyndell and Limgrave have been opened up for online multiplayer PvP action.
According to the official site, each arena has its own set of rules, this is worth noting. In Limgrave, for example, players can participate in United Combat (timed respawn team battles, team deathmatch style) and Combat Ordeal (free for all).
In Leyndell, the Royal Colosseum, you’ll find Duel Mode, a one-on-one multiplayer game. There are no respawns here. In Caelid Colosseum, meanwhile, you can participate in all three multiplayer modes with the added benefit of being able to summon Spirit Ashes. You can battle anyone online and you’ll need to use group passwords to face (or team up) with friends.
More of these
But it’s not just about adding free multiplayer DLC. For starters, five new hairstyles have also been added to the game’s character creation tool. You’ll also notice various balance adjustments. The speed and range of attacks with daggers, axes, hammers, and dual-wielding flails have been increased along with a reduced cooldown.
A number of bug fixes have also been made, including that pesky bug that “prevented replenishing consumable items when teleporting to mercy from the map”. You can see the full list of Elden Ring 1.08 patch notes right here.
