Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon was formally announced at The Game Awards 2022. Here’s what fans need to know.

There are many game series that have been moved to the side so that developers can work on new projects. For example, FromSoftware put the Dark Souls series on hold to work on a new game like Elden Ring.

It seems that FromSoftware is ready to revisit the old series of games they had. While players were expecting news for the Elden Ring DLC, what we didn’t expect was Armored Core 6 notification. That’s right, FromSoftware is returning to the Armored Core series, and we’ve got all the details you’re looking for on the game.

Does Armored Core 6 have a release date?

FromSoftware formally announced Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon during The Game Awards 2022, unveiling a trailer and confirming that the game will be released in 2023 on Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC. The game will be published by Bandai Namco.

The announcement at The Game Awards is notable because an Armored Core game hasn’t been made in over 10 years. The last game to come out was Armored Core V, which was released by the developers back in 2012 during the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era.

Armored Core 6 game explained

So far, the only clue regarding the game comes from Bandai Namco’s official press release, which reads:

“In ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON, players will be able to move freely through massive 3D environments with fast maneuverability while experiencing visceral vehicular combat. Signature to FromSoftwareWith carefully crafted game design, the game will feature challenging and memorable battles along with a fulfilling progression system and deep gameplay, all now powered by mech building and massive boss battles. Players will know a sense of satisfaction and achievement when they overcome a difficult situation and enjoy a momentary victory and perhaps a boost to their status before they face the next challenge.”

Will Armored Core 6 have “soul-like” combat?

FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke after the first reveal IGN for an exclusive interview and confirmed some interesting details about the game’s development.

First, Miyazaki mentioned that Fires of Rubicon won’t be “just a sci-fi Soulslike,” which may come as a relief to those who struggle with Soulsborne-style games.

Miyazaki went on to explain that the studio “didn’t make a conscious effort to try to direct [Armored Core VI] towards more Soulsborne-type gameplay.”

“Boss battles are the highlight of the game in this title,” director Masaru Yamamura told IGN in a statement.

That said, it sounds like the essence of the Soulsborne games is still strongly felt in the moment-to-moment gameplay and boss battles.

“Boss battles are the highlight of the game in this title,” director Masaru Yamamura told IGN in a statement.

“Of course, the essence of the battles, where the player reads the enemy’s movements and then plays games with them, is ensured, as is typical of FromSoftware. In this title, both the enemy and your own machine are aggressive and violent in their attacks. We are developing the game so that players can enjoy dynamic and intense boss battles that only mechs can offer, along with unique aspects of AC, such as how to assemble the right parts to take on the strongest enemies.”
