Barnes canceled concerts last week due to a “very serious illness” in his family.
“I’ve been really looking forward to these concerts now that I’m back from COVID, but Jane, me and our kids have to be somewhere else in the coming days because we’re all unexpectedly saying goodbye to someone we love.” he said in a statement to fans.
“We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this will cause to fans who have held tickets to these performances for so long. Of course, they will receive a full refund.
“This decision was not taken lightly, but we believe that people will understand that in times like this, the family must really come first.”
Barnes on Twitter again on Monday to share the sad news that a friend from the music manager also died.
“In a week when you think nothing else can break your heart, we have lost our dear friend Warren Costell,” he wrote of the photo.
“We worked together on records that changed my life.” He was the second beating heart of the Mushroom Group and was by my side through and through. I love you, friend RIP. “
Costello, who co-founded Liberation Records with late industrial veteran Michael Gudinski, recently succumbed to the disease.
His death was confirmed by the Mushroom Group, which said that a very popular music manager had made a significant contribution to the Australian entertainment industry.
The death of Costello and Barnes’ mother-in-law comes after the singer lost one of his siblings last month.
“Thank you for all your condolences on the death of my beautiful sister Linda,” the then 66-year-old wrote on social media.
“This week has been challenging and stunning. We appreciate your support. ”
