The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) confirmed new national matches for men and women under 19 at the State of Origin at Leichhardt Oval on Thursday 23 June.

Both matches will be broadcast on Nine Network and Fox Sports, with each under-19 team also having the option of choosing two “marquee” players under the age of 20 contracted by the NRL or NRLW.

Players eligible under the age of 19 or four seats under the age of 20 would include the Roosters duo Sam Walker and Joseph Suaalii, Parramatty Will Penisini center, Warriors defender Reece Walsh, Broncos half-defender Ezra Mam or Dragons defender Tyrell Sloan .

Australian Rugby League commission chairman Peter V’landys AM said the commission was excited to be able to promote emerging talent through new matches under the age of 19.

“This is a chance to see the best and brightest prospects in the game,” Mr V’landys said. “Why don’t we take the opportunity to show off the talents of these amazing young players?”

It will be one of many new initiatives promoting a new generation of players to fans.

To strengthen match support and reward schools and clubs that have links to match players, the NRL will allow free entry to all areas for general match entry.

The NRL also pledges to run buses for schools and clubs that want to express support in numbers in their colors.

Individual schools and clubs that are able to reach 40 or more participants can apply here.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo said: “The state of origin under the age of 19 – for both men and women – is an exciting opportunity for fans to see the players going this new route and highlight where they came from to reach that level. . “
